...God's Solution to Sin...
The reason we lack inner peace is because we have a sense of guilt (Romans 3:79). Guilt comes from sin, which is a universal problem for the bible tell us that all have sinned (Romans 3:23).

The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Death is a natural result of sin because iniquities separate us from God who is the source of life, leaving the only remaining option of death. (Isaiah 59:2).

Yet all have sinned and therefore deserve to die (Romans 3:23). But Jesus was God's solution to the problem of sin (John 3:16).  Jesus came to die for every man instead (Hebrews 2:9), and destroyed the one who had power over death (Hebrews 2:14).

Christs life took the place of my imperfect life because He has paid for my debt and credited my "account" with his righteousness (Isaiah 53: 4-6).  By taking my sin, He died the death i was supposed to die, both the *potentially temporary death and the 2nd permanent death (Isaiah 53: 12). *The temporary death is potential because Christ could return before it happens.

Jesus bore our sin by becoming sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21).  Jesus became a curse for us (Galatians 3:13) (???). Not only did He pay for my sins, he became sin itself and crucified it on the cross.

...The Gift of Salvation...
God saves us by grace. It is not something we earn from good works but it is a gift (Ephesians 2:8).
How can one be saved? (Acts 16:30).  One can be saved if they believe in the LORD Jesus (Acts 16:13). Those that are saved will have eternal life (1 John 5: 11-13).

Now because of Salvation, i am a new creature and am no longer powerlessly bound by that sinful nature. The fruit of the spirit is the nature that lives dominantly in me. Although we are no longer bound by the sinful nature, everyday is a struggle for each of us to choose either way. We are free, but we could still choose to remain in bondage, many a time we choose the latter.
